Arrival of the Treasure Sculpture

After eight centuries of its existence in India, the Tooth relic was secretly brought by Dantha and Hemamala to Sri Lanka in order to safeguard it. The Tooth Relic plays a very important role as it held the governance of the country and was safeguarded by the ruler of ancient Sri Lanka. This carving is inspired by a twentieth century wall painting of the temple of Kelaniya by a local artist Solius Mendis. It is one of the most popular Sri Lankan paintings and this carving has been hand crafted to represent the significance of this incident in Sri Lankan history.
