Nature Inspired Texture Artist

Bhagya Weerakoon is an artist from the central
hill country in Sri Lanka, who is also a graduate from the University of Visual
and Performing Arts in Colombo as a graphics designer. During her time at the university, she mainly followed visual
communication, design, art history, theory of paintings, abstract art, figure
drawing etc. Having graduated, she has worked in several corporate institutes before
finally opting to go solo as a freelancer and an art teacher.
Currently Bhagya is free to create her own
creations and she remembers the time she was at her home in a misty and hilly
region, where she developed a close relations with nature which she chose as
her inspiration to her work. Her work mainly comprises of textures and patterns
from nature. She does her work on canvas panels, where she allows the material
to reveal the innate qualities and show her the path, she needs to take in creating
her work. Her work is primarily with acrylic paints, pigments and water-based
colors where she employs their bold palette and fluidity to give her paintings
a presence that captures the essence of the nature, which unveils a vivid
internal world which she hope to create for her audience. This she feels will
give them a feeling op optimism through brightness, freshness, color and form.
