Experimental Contemporary Artist
Sri Lanka
Dhammani Nakandalage uses
her paintings as a medium to communicate the beauty she sees in the nature
through her eyes to the world. Growing up in a coastal town in Sri Lanka, she
has been always fascinated by the animals and the scenery around her. She has
won several national and international awards for her paintings, including the Silver
Medal in the 1st Kanagawa International Art Competition in Japan.
Even though she followed a career in STEM, she never stopped drawing and continued to give life to scenes around her through paint. After retiring from her career, she started to learn art in a professional setting. She is currently following a Diploma in Drawing and Painting conducted by the University of Visual and Performing Arts which is under the University of Colombo. Her keen eye and natural skill allow her to give life to her paintings, making the viewers feel what she felt when drawing them; happiness, serenity and the wonder at the beauty around her.
