Talented Figurative and Portrait Artist
Sri Lanka
I am Janaka Chaminda, a Sri Lankan portrait and figurative artist. I mainly work with graphite, charcoal, watercolor and oil. I studied portraiture and figurative drawing and painting at the Vibhavi Academy of Fine Arts under the tutelage Prof. Chandraguptha Thenuwara.
I had a knack for drawing since my childhood even though I did not have an artistic background. I did art as a subject in school and was very fond of sketching always. Above all, I love to do live portraits, because it a very challenging task for an artist.
Internationally, I get inspired by master artists like Ivan Kramskoi, Ilys Repin, John Singer Sargent, Paul Cezanne etc. Among Sri Lankan artists, I highly admire David Paynter, and A. C. G. S. Amarasekara.
Sketching whatever I see and whatever comes to my mind is my habit. Frankly speaking, I am obsessed with that. I want to improve my artistic skills more and more and hold an art exhibition one day. It is still a dream for me. I hope that one day it will become a reality.
