Contemporary Artist
Canada
Mariam Qureshi is a self-taught Visual Artist who
has been painting since she was 5 years old as it is something which brings her
happiness. She didn't study art at the university because she never thought she
could display her works to anyone. However, in 2015 Mariam was presented with a
studio sponsorship, which allowed her to open her own studio and turn it into a
little art gallery with art works on exhibit by lots of amazing artists from
Edmonton, Canada. Running an artist run studio was hard work, but Mariam loved
it as it allowed her to create and exhibit and show works by others who were
similar to her.
In 2017, she was selected by the Museum of
Austria to exhibit her work at their exhibition in the Musee du Louvre which
was another bright highlight in her art career. The experience allowed her to
create better creations as she learned new techniques, working closely with some
of the curators and artists who participated in that exhibition.
Mariam loves painting with a variety of
mediums, but her favorites are oil, acrylic, watercolor and ink. She also
loves creating textures and drips as she adores a little mystery in art, so she
prefers to create paintings with a mixture of contemporary styles.
Her artistic idols have always been abstract,
surrealist, impressionists, and expressionist artists such as Dali, Jackson
Pollack, H. Margritte, Georgia O'keefe, Monet and Basquiat amongst others. She mostly
uses the palette knife as she finds it easier to give depth to colors. She also
prefers to create larger paintings, murals, creating art shows and teaching
art.
She has recently started printmaking and also started an outdoor art workshop called Art meets Nature, where she invites patrons on a hike where they make sketches to later complete them at her studio. Her work mostly comes from her imagination, but nature and the environment tend to be her biggest muse. It has allowed her to create a few paintings that have very simplicity in the brushstrokes. She will continue to follow this chosen path to create paintings that are refreshing, inspired by nature and emotions.
