Artist Searching for Identity and Joy
Sri Lanka
Since younger age, Saman Dewagamage has been fascinated by colors and shapes of life and his surroundings. In this fascination, he started to explore the connection between human and nature through different shapes, colors, and phenomena. Even as a child, Saman always allowed his paint brush to lead him and let his understanding of nature to come out through. He paints for joy and sometimes to free himself from external challenges of life and he wants to share his joy and freedom with everyone through his brilliant works of art.
Saman started as a free painter in his childhood and later was trained at the Text Art Academy in Sri Lanka on technical elements and visual literacy. Through his curiosity of nature and life, Saman searched for his own identity as a human being with the aim of finding ultimate freedom and joy. As a husband of a wonderful wife, and father of two beautiful and talented daughters, he tries to bring joy to this world through this search for identity. In a world where there are disasters, conflicts, and many other crises, Saman think that it is very important for all human beings to find and share the joy of living.
He generally uses oil paint and acrylic paint in his work and he continues to develop his own style, but not limited to one style of painting. Over the past many years of experience, Saman now knows that joy comes through limitless freedom. As a member of the George Keyt Foundation, he sometimes presents his work at the Kala Pola annual Art Exhibition in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
