Sri Lanka
A past pupil of Daranagama
National Collage and Ananda Collage, Colombo, Upul Jaayashantha indulged in his
passion for art after he completed schooling. He became a student of late art
maestro Kalasuri Jayasiri Semage and participated in the "Jaya Sisura 2005" art
exhibition. Then he exhibited his work in solo art exhibitions "Arunalu - 2006"
and "Nekru - 2011".
He is a member of Ceylon Society of Art and participated in many group exhibitions. Like his painting influence his profession; so does his profession influences his paintings. This is evident in certain paintings where the details of the jewelry are Presley painted with the strokes. Upul's preference is to portray the human figure on canvas in different styles and actions. His great love for the female form shares from the fact that the female figure has a rhythm to it. His paintings also reflect his liking for sober earth tones. A lot of his paintings are included in private collections of many local and overseas art lovers.
