Acrylic on tripled primed / stretched medium grain cotton canvas (380 g/m) 'Disappearing' is an original Acrylic painting of the once widespread and formidable Black-Rhino of Africa. Bringing this beautiful subject to 'Life' has been a labor of love and pleasure. About 130hrs of work have gone into each individual painting. This was inspired by the immense vulnerable state this magnificent animal's population is in. Only being the second largest land animal next to the elephant, this species is classified as critically endangered (even though the South western Black Rhinoceros is classified as vulnerable). Three subspecies have been declared extinct, including the western Black rhinoceros. Which was declared extinct by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 2011' Into a misty background this robust rhino that is full in its prime, gradually disappears leaving its audience in awe and mystery. A curious stare I perfectly portrayed through the glare of the animal whilst being surrounded by his ever-loyal flighty companions. The creator has beautifully and skillfully merged the main characters of the painting into its light and misty background causing the animals to fade into oblivion as a dream would disappear in the mind of its waking receiver.
