Multi-Skilled Religious Artist and Sculptor

Gayani Srimali, born in 1978 lived as a child in the village of Sevanagala, Habaraluwewa in the rural Sri Lanka. She studied Art for the local Ordinary and Advanced Levels examinations and she has also studied for an external degree in the same subject.

She was involved in external art related projects since the age of 17. Through these projects, she had the opportunity to engage in various religious artistic ventures such as sculpting buddhist statues in temples, painting of frescoes, guardian stones, perahera related work which developed her skills as an artistic creator.

Although she was unable to complete her external degree due to various commitments and extracurricular activities, she was able to complete a course in painting and sculpture through the Folk-Art Center and she has since then studied further in her chosen profession from Pho Chang University in Thailand. While studying in Thailand, she had the opportunity to work with highly skilled sculptors from multiple countries where she held several workshops and exhibitions.

She is now living with her family in Colombo, Sri Lanka and follows her profession of undertaking all Buddhist painting and sculpture work, paintings (nature, abstract and modern), live human forms sculpting etc. Gayani has also held several exhibitions at The National Art Gallery of Sri Lanka and Lionel Wendt Gallery.
