Thiloka Kariyapperuma

Floral Artist and Illustrator

Sri Lanka

Thiloka Kariyupperuma is a floral artist and children's book illustrator. She is a senior member of the Ceylon Society of Arts and a registered artist of the National Craft Council.

She has been an active illustrator for Room To Read – Sri Lanka since 2013 and also works with IBMC Publications as an illustrator. Over the course of her career, she has contributed illustrations to 19 books.

From childhood, she has loved nature, which inspired her to choose floral painting as her main subject. To her, flowers are like an incomprehensible poem—each with unique colors, shapes, and textures that express a variety of emotions. She strives to capture and convey those emotions through her paintings.

She has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including All Island First Place for textile painting in 2011, 2017, and 2018 at the annual Shilpa Abhimani exhibition organized by the National Craft Council. In 2015, she also won the Gold Award for casual jewelry and hand-painted wear at a competition organized by the Sri Lanka Handicrafts Board.

One of her floral paintings was selected among 212 artworks for the IMWA International Watercolor Floral Art Competition under the theme “Goddess of Beauty.”
