Shany Perera is a self-taught acrylic artist based in Sri Lanka, inspired by the quiet beauty of ordinary moments. Her earliest memories of art trace back to the sketches she and her sister exchanged with their father while he lived away. That small tradition became her first creative connection and sparked a lifelong fascination with drawing.
Although her path first led her through careers in banking, marketing, and aviation, art has always been the one thing that felt like home. After years of setting it aside, she finally returned to painting, rediscovering the joy it brings. Without formal training, she has learned through observation and continuous practice, with each painting teaching her something new about technique.
Her work is inspired by the understated poetry of daily life, capturing small, intimate moments that often go unnoticed. She is currently working on an ongoing series titled Untold, which tells an evolving love story through table scenes without people or faces—only the objects left behind. Through this series, she explores love in its many stages, from its beginnings to its transformation.
She paints primarily with acrylics, drawn to their immediacy and versatility. They allow her to build layers of texture and mood, moving intuitively between softness and contrast. She particularly enjoys using Winsor & Newton professional-grade paints for their vibrant, high-quality colours.
For Shany, painting is not just an act of creation; it is a way of slowing down, paying attention, and finding beauty in the simple things.
